From Crete to Moosburg
My father's name was Pvt George Edward Malpas of 152 Coy
RAOC. I have little information about his detention, he did
not talk about it much. He was badly injured while on a
working party in Munich during a daylight air raid. He told
me he remembered scrambling into a bomb crater on the
principle a bomb never hit the same place twice. I think
some of his comrades were killed. He was in the camp
hospital when it was liberated and felt the Americans saved
his life as they had penicillin available. He later had an
arm amputated as a result of his injuries.
My father had been captured on Crete. I feel sure the
picture showing British, New Zealand and Australian POWs
from Crete and Salonica (July 1941) includes my father in
the POWs centrally.
