Historic houses auf dem Gries

The street Auf dem Gries is flanked by a row of old houses. The photo shows two of them in a neglected state. The one on the left with the Neo-Gothic gable has a late medieval core and is still empty; the small neighbour is Baroque and has been lately renovated. In front is the old war memorial in the shape of a Neo-Gothic pinnacle. Originally it was on the square Auf dem Plan but is now replaced by a new one. The name of the street, "Auf dem Gries", is derived from "Grieß" (gravel, grit) and implies that the area was part of the Isar river bank in former times. Picture: © WebTeam Moosburg
